How to Remove and Replace the Screen on Your Double-Hung and Sliding Windows - Step 1: Open Windows and Raise Screen

Open Windows and Raise Screen

Open the window so you can reach the screen. On double-hung windows, you can use the tilt-in feature of the sash. Raise the screen a few inches so you can grasp the top and bottom.

Push Screen to the Side

Push the screen to the side containing the screen spring, compressing the spring and allowing the screen to be removed from the track. Pull the damaged screen out through the window opening.

Reinsert Screen

To re-install the screen, reinsert the spring side of the screen into the side track and compress to insert into the opposite side track. You can now lower the screen into the bottom track and close your window.

Note: Do not lean against screens, they do not act as safety barriers.
